Course Description

Educational class to understand Application of Ventilation Equipment for Neonatal patients.

The overall goals of mechanical ventilation are to optimize gas exchange, patient work of breathing, and patient comfort while minimising ventilator-induced lung injury.

  • Physiology, anatomy of the neonatal lung: Understanding neonatal principles
  • Humidification
  • Nebulising the neonate
  • Options in oxygenation before we need to ventilate
  • Principles of ventilating the neonate
  • Modes of ventilation: Understanding modes

Training person: Sarel Van Der Walt

Sarel is currently the Respiratory Divisional Manager at RCA, previous position as Territory Manager, Respiratory Sales Representative & Clinical Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the medical device industry.

He is skilled in Medical Devices, Sales Operations, Healthcare Information Technology (HIT), Capital Equipment, and Account Management.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Technology (BTech) focused in Electrical
  • Electronics Engineering from Technicon Free State
